In a region rich with both opportunities and challenges, collaboration between traditional authorities and development initiatives is essential. The Eastern DRC Investment Development Project (EDRCIDP) recognizes the importance of working closely with the Chefferie de Bashu to ensure sustainable and inclusive development.

Through this partnership, the project engages the chiefdom leadership to secure consensual agreements for mining land use, ensuring that artisanal mining activities respect customary land rights while contributing to local economic growth.

One of the key objectives of the collaboration is to organize artisanal miners into cooperatives, improving transparency, safety, and benefit-sharing among community members. This approach not only legitimizes mining operations but also helps reduce conflict over resources.

In addition to mining initiatives, the partnership also supports agricultural development by integrating local knowledge into programs aimed at improving crop productivity, strengthening food security, and expanding access to regional markets.

Social programs are also a key component of the initiative. Working through the influence of the chiefdom leadership, the project mobilizes communities for women’s empowerment and education programs, including initiatives that support schoolgirls with essential health supplies.

By combining traditional governance with modern development strategies, the collaboration between EDRCIDP and the Chefferie de Bashu is helping build a future based on economic opportunity, gender equality, and long-term peace in eastern DRC.
